Downtown Jebel Ali

Downtown Jebel Ali is a modern and actively developing area in southwest Dubai, which is part of the larger Jebel Ali area created for expatriates in the 1970s. Downtown Jebel Ali emerged much later as part of a large-scale plan to develop the non-oil sector of the UAE's economy.

Currently, Jebel Ali is a developed district with extensive residential, industrial, and commercial buildings. It includes:

  • Jebel Ali Sea Port — the largest in the Middle East and the UAE's main hub for importing goods and re-exporting to the Persian Gulf and Middle East countries;
  • Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZA), which hosts about 7,500 companies with 135,000 employees;
  • The Palm Jebel Ali archipelago, an artificial group of islands shaped like the legendary Palm Jumeirah islands but twice their size;
  • Two industrial zones.
